By now you’ve probably heard or seen that Easter falls on April 1st this year. Yes, April Fools Day is the very same day as Easter. I’ve heard people say that they will be sending their kids on a hunt for eggs that they never hid, or eggs that have been filled with something very undesirable. As it is the case every year (it seems like), the true meaning of Easter gets trumped by that fluffy bunny and now it has to share a day with the holiday of practical jokes. So how can you keep your mind Christ focused this holiday season?
1. With Your Decorations
I’m not one who normally decorates for any holiday except for Christmas. While walking through a Mardel store earlier this month, they have these awesome cross signs that you can put in your front yard (kinda like the material a campaign sign is made out of) that says “He Is Risen!” And yes, He is risen indeed! Isn’t it cool that we serve a risen Savior?!? I think it is! He didn’t stay dead in that grave, He rose again after three days!!! Woohoo! If that isn’t exciting, I don’t know what is! π You can order these crosses online or visit a Mardel or Lifeway store near you!
2. Easter Baskets & Eggs
Instead of filling them with tons of candy, put a Bible, notebook with a Bible verse on it, or cross related jewelry in their basket. Oriental Trading has some good egg fillers as well as some home decor and gifts to fill Easter baskets with! I know they make chocolate crosses too! You can’t go wrong with that! π
3. Easter Devotional
Gather the family around and read the Easter account straight from the Bible. You can find it in all four of the gospels. Each will have their own telling, so pick which you like best, and read away! Or better yet, you can read them all! (Maybe even a gospel a day leading up to Easter? Just an idea!)
- Matthew 26-28
- Mark 15-16
- Luke 22-24
- John 17-20
4. Watch The Easter Account Via A Movie
A couple good movies to watch would be;
- The Passion of the Christ (2004)
- Amazing Grace (2006)
I hope some of these have given you a few good ideas to stay Christ focused this Easter season. I’d love to hear from you in the comments some of the ways you like to stay Christ focused!!
