So I figured before we get too far in this story, I should introduce you to my main characters and their backstories. 🙂 So, here we go!
1. Penni Joy – 15 Years Old

This is the best representation I could find on how I picture Penni.
If you read the first chapter you’ve already met her and know about how she came to live at the orphanage. But just to refresh your memory, her parents died in the train accident at the beginning of the book.
2. Skip Hilton – 17 Years Old

This is the best representation I could find on Skip. Although he would be a slightly younger version in my novel than he is in the above picture. Lol
Skip’s backstory has yet to be written into my story, but here is what I was thinking… His parents were missionaries somewhere overseas. They were killed by Japanese troops along with his 9 year old brother. His mother hid him in a basket under their bed where he was later found by rescue workers, brought back to the states and put in the orphanage. Skip was only 2 at the time.
3. Coleen Harper – 16 Years Old

This is the best representation on Coleen that I could find. 🙂
Coleen is Penni’s best friend at the orphanage. Her backstory has yet to be written into the story but I plan to put it in somewhere at a later date. Her dad was a mine worker and died in a mine collapse, and her mother couldn’t afford to take care of her anymore, thus putting her into the orphanage.
4. Mark Thomas – 17 Years Old

This is the best representation I could find on Mark. Although, like Skip, he would be a slightly younger version in my story.
His backstory was mentioned in Chapter 1, so this will just be a refresher for you. His dad was a navy soldier and died in the Pearl Harbor Attack. His mom was pregnant with him at the time. A couple years after he was born, she couldn’t bear the reminder of her late husband anymore and left him on the orphanage door step. He was 2.
5. Margaret Holder – 17 Years Old

This is the best representation I could find on Margaret.
Her backstory was also mentioned in Chapter 1. Her parent’s died in the train accident alongside Penni’s. When the windows of the train blew, it cut open her cheek and left a not so pretty scar.
6. Hannah Cooperton – 11 Years Old

This is the best representation of Hannah that I could find. 🙂
Her backstory has yet to make it into the story, but her mother died during childbirth, and her dad died protecting her in the train accident. She was only 1 at the time.
7. The Longwell Siblings – 17 and 13 Years Old

This is the best representation I could find on Kaine and Lillian, you’ll get to meet them in chapter 7. 😉
They had very abusive parents who died in a car accident. They lived with their grandfather until he had a heart attack.
So, there you go! There’s the majority of my main orphan characters! What do you think? Check back next week for chapter 2!

Hi all! I am 28 years old, live in the Lake of the Ozarks area in Missouri! I am married to my wonderful husband for 7 years, and together we have an adorable 5 year old son, a 3 year old son and a 10 month old boy!! I have been writing for as long as I can remember. My grandma was one of my biggest supporters until she passed away in 2010. I have been writing a book for 10+ years, and am looking to finish it this year! I have written many poems, and some short stories along the way as well. My husband is a mechanic and I'm a stay at home mom. Writing is a big part of my life and that played a part in starting this blog!
